Your carbon footprint
How much CO₂ do your travel and your home put out in a year? Fill in what you know; the total updates as you type.
The calculator needs JavaScript. The emission factors it uses are listed below, so you can also work it out by hand.
How it’s worked out
Each activity is multiplied by an emission factor: the CO₂ released per kilometre, per unit of electricity or per kg of gas. Indian factors are used wherever they exist.
It covers your own travel and home energy only. India’s average of about 2.2 tonnes per person also includes industry, farms and everything the country builds, so a personal total below it is normal.
| Activity | Factor | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol car (hatchback) | 0.140 kg / km | India GHG Program, 2015 |
| Diesel car (sedan) | 0.141 kg / km | India GHG Program, 2015 |
| CNG car (small) | 0.068 kg / km | India GHG Program, 2015 |
| Motorcycle or scooter | 0.032 kg / km | India GHG Program, 2015 |
| Auto rickshaw (CNG) | 0.108 kg / km | India GHG Program, 2015 |
| City bus | 0.015 kg / passenger-km | India GHG Program, 2015 |
| Domestic flight | 0.229 kg / passenger-km | UK Government, 2026 (incl. high-altitude effects) |
| Grid electricity | 0.675 kg / unit (kWh) | Central Electricity Authority, FY 2025-26 |
| Cooking gas (LPG) | 2.985 kg / kg | IPCC 2006 Guidelines |
